Committed to Health and Healing

Taking the first step to begin treatment is often the most difficult phase of a person’s path to recovery. We congratulate you for embarking on this journey. Whether you’re facing this challenge yourself or researching information for someone you care about, we are glad you considered NEMHC during this difficult time and we look forward to the opportunity to work with you. At Northeastern Mental Health Center, we offer multiple treatment options for youth, adolescents and adults:

A Holistic Approach

We approach mental health care with hope, purpose and optimism – one person at a time. Our clients receive individualized strength-based treatment from our highly-skilled therapists and psychiatric medical providers. At NEMHC we strive to offer the highest standard of care and addiction rehabilitation, in a therapeutic environment where holistic healing can begin.

Recovery looks different for each of our clients. We spend time understanding what improvements each individual would like in their life – spiritually, educationally, financially, interpersonally and/or physically. Based on these goals, an Individualized Treatment Plan is designed to establish milestones and build upon strengths to move down the path of recovery. Each plan is unique and the strategies used are equally as unique. While our counselors have years of experience with a variety of methodologies, by really understanding our clients we can offer unique solutions when needed as well. Our goal is to provide better balance in every aspect of our client’s lives using a plan that works best for them.

Accessible Assistance

We are a state Accredited Community Health Center and have been serving northeastern South Dakota since 1958. Community members, including Francis “Peg” Lamont, understood the importance of accessible mental health services and made it a reality through coffee and donuts fundraisers. What started as Brown County Mental Health Association in 1955 has grown into a staff of more than 30 counselors, a medical team, and an integral network of support staff and leadership. Northeastern Mental Health is overseen by a dedicated volunteer board of directors.

We have facilities in Aberdeen, Webster, Redfield and Mobridge with a reach of ten counties. If you’re unable to travel to our locations or would be more comfortable in a different setting, we are happy to come to you – your home, a restaurant or your office. As part of our early childhood services, we regularly spend time with our young clients at their daycare, pre-school or elementary to provide support to them and their caretakers.

No one will be denied services at NEMHC based on their ability to pay, method of payment or any other reason (race, color, sex, national origin, disability religion, age, gender identity or sexual orientation). A sliding fee scale and other funding sources are available based on family size and income. If you need financial assistance please inform the receptionist at the time of making your appointment.
